You have the possibility of working remotely from another country and you decide to move your home office to Andalucía. Congratulations!! You are going to work in the region with the best climate in all of Europe and the best beaches in the south of the continent. If you have made that decision, you probably already know that in Andalusia you will enjoy an excellent balance between work and personal life. You are going to eat wonderfully well, people are going to welcome you with open arms and the cost of living is lower than in many other regions of Spain and Europe. Ultimately, you are going to move where others come on vacation.
Before saying goodbye to stress and starting your new life in one of the telework paradises, you must take into account a series of aspects so that your relocation project to Andalusia is a success.
Five tips for moving to Andalucía:
1. Study your situation.
Before coming to Andalusia, analyze what your plans are and what your employment situation is. The type of residence permit and work permit you will need will depend on that. There are different types and it is best to know which one is best suited to your case because each one involves different procedures.
2. European citizen or non-European Union citizen?
If you are a citizen of Europe or of a country belonging to the EU, you should know that the visa procedures will be much shorter and more agile. You can live and work in Spain by requesting the EU registration certificate. If you do not belong to the EU, you must start the processing of your application from outside Spain through the Consulate or Embassy of Spain in your city or in your country of origin. They will initiate the procedure and you will obtain a visa at origin to go to Spain / Andalusia and continue from Spanish soil with the process: request the NIE and the residence permit.
It is interesting that you keep in mind that the Spanish Entrepreneurs Law includes options for residence permits such as the entrepreneur visa or the visa as a highly qualified professional.
3. Work permit.
If you are a citizen of the European Union, you will get your work permit quickly.
Evaluate your case: for example, working as an employee of a foreign company from Spain / Andalusia is not the same as establishing yourself as a self-employed worker or being a large investor.
Make sure you meet the requirements to apply for the entrepreneur visa or highly qualified work permit. In both cases the procedure is simpler than the procedure for obtaining a standard work permit.
4. The NIE
Once you enter Spain / Andalucía, the first thing you should do is go to the National Police office in your city to request your NIE number. It is the identification number for foreigners and it is essential for any economic activity that you need to do from this moment on (buying a house, requesting a residence permit, opening an account at the bank).
5. Basic documents to put in your suitcase
Regardless of your particular situation and your plans, there are a series of documents that you will need for most of the legal procedures you have to do:
- Passport (don't forget to make copies) and passport photos
- Health insurance
- Criminal record certificate corresponding to the last 5 years
- Bank document to show that you have sufficient financial means to live
- Remember that all the supporting documents to move to Andalusia (and any other place in Spain) must be legally translated into Spanish.
