The city of Malaga has been attracting a plethora of tech companies in the last few years, becoming the aptly named "Malaga Valley": an innovative ecosystem of a variety of digital and other technological sectors. Malaga, with a metropolitan population of 1.1 million, is a gateway to the Costa del Sol and to Andalucia. It enjoys one of the best climates in Europe with beautiful beaches, attractive mountain landscapes, more than fifty golf courses, several sailing marinas and a ski resort in the nearby Sierra Nevada mountains. It is known for its culture (birthplace of Pablo Picasso and Antonio Banderas) and innovation. It is no suprise that companies choose it for their headquarters or expansion projects.

One notable addition was the new 2,500sqm Google cybersecurity centre, opened in November 2023. Google first acquired Málaga-based startup VirusTotal a decade ago. The firm now boasts one of the world's largest malware databases and is the first resident in Google's new centre. Google, which already has cybersecurity centres in Munich and Dublin, said its Málaga site would house experts building tools to combat cyber threats.

Today, Málaga TechPark is home to 630 companies, 60 of them international. It employs over 20,000 professionals and represents 1.65 percent of GDP and employment for the region of Andalucia. Foreign investment in Malaga represents almost 37% of the Andalusian region total. The City of Malaga has made a commitment to help international companies, investors and entrepreneurs open offices, invest and commence business activities via a dedicated portal.

Málaga was also recently voted the second best city in the world for foreign residents in the InterNations Expat City Ranking 2023. In this annual survey, cities are scored based on numerous and varied parameters such as quality of life (includes a healthy environment and a good infrastructure for digital development), ease of settling down (reception of local citizens, language), cost life, employment (stable local economy) and personal issues such as the health system.

A list of the best companies to work for in Malaga might help you start your digital nomad life in this fast-expanding city of Andalucia.
