The Government of Spain has launched a mechanism so that displaced people from Ukraine can easily access temporary protection and all the rights associated with this legal figure, such as residence and work permits.

Ukrainians displaced in Spain can request such protection at specific National Police stations and at the reception centers set up for their arrival, where National Police officials will take their identification data and issue a receipt accrediting their request for protection, which will state also an assigned NIE. For this procedure, the help already provided by language interpreters will be available.

The request will be processed by the Asylum and Refuge Office of the Ministry of the Interior and will be resolved within a maximum period of 24 hours. The resolution will include residence authorization and, in the case of applicants of legal age, work authorization.

The resolution will be notified to the applicant electronically (if possible), by post or in person at police stations or foreigners' offices.

Not only Ukrainian nationals can access temporary protection, but also legal residents in that country, as well as Ukrainians who were in Spain in an irregular situation prior to the Russian invasion.

Temporary protection may be denied, among other reasons, if it is verified that the applicant may pose a risk to national security.
