The government of Spain has issued a grant specially designed for ditigitalisation of small and medium companies
The Ministry of Industry of Spain is offering any company or independent contractor ("autonomo") registered in Spain, regardless of nationality, the opportunity to gain a grant for advancing various digital aspects of its operations. These areas can range from simple elements such as a website and basic internet presence, to e-commerce and electronic billing. It is similar to a digital voucher with an economic amount for you to manage by choosing one or more digital solutions offered by pre-approved digitizing agents that develop the various services. This grant is called the "Digital Kit" and we explain here who can apply for it, how to register for it, and how to use it.
Who is eligible for the "Digital Kit" grant?
The "Digital Kit" is aimed at meeting the needs of small businesses, independent contractors, and enterprises of all economy sectors.
The grant can only be obtained by freelancers or small companies ("PYMES") registered in Spain. However, the nationality of the applicant does not matter - the person or entity awarded the grant must simply be registered/incorporated in Spain. This makes it ideal for teleworkers operating in Andalucia and meet the requirements. If you meet the following conditions, the Digital Kit program is made for you:
- Be a small business, microbusiness or "autonomo" independent contractor.
- Comply with financial and effective limits that define the categories of companies. More details here
- Be formally registered and in active status for the minimum required period.
- Be up to date with obligations of taxes and Social Security.
- Not be subject to bankruptcy, or declared illegal and incompatible aid by the European Commission, or any of the prohibitions of general subsidies of Spanish Law. (specifically article 13.2 of Law 38/2003, of November 17)
How does one apply for the Digital Kit grant?
The deadline for applying for "Digital Kit" is the 31/12/2024. A useful starting point is the Digital Kit Quick Start guide issued by the Ministry of Industry, found here.
- Register in the private area and complete the digital diagnostic test of the government organisation assisting with this grant "Acelera Pyme"
- Decide which areas of digitalisation you would benefit from. These can be: Website and Internet Presence, SEO, E-commerce, Social media management, Virtual office, Customer management, Electronic invoicing, Business intelligence, Cybersecurity.
- Find out which category of entity you fall under and use that link to apply for the grant. You will need to have a Spanish government digital certificate to authenticate yourself on the Ministry's servers.
Once approved, how is the grant used?
The services are offered by pre-approved "digitizing agents", listed here. Once you are approved for the Digital Kit, you can contact the agencies to coordinate the work to be performed. It is however advisable to operate in the reverse order, i.e. to contact some agents already and let them know you will be applying for the Digital Kit - they are often able to help you formulate a plan to better guarantee you will be approved.
